CIMT Cardiovascular Screenings

Early detection of cardiovascular disease through advanced carotid ultrasound imaging.

WHAT IS CIMT?

  • Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) ultrasound is a non-invasive test used to evaluate the thickness of the carotid artery walls and detect early plaque buildup.

The carotid arteries supply blood to the brain. Changes in these artery walls can be an early indicator of cardiovascular disease and stroke risk.

CIMT screening helps identify early vascular changes so patients and physicians can take preventive action.

  • • Non-invasive ultrasound test
    • No radiation exposure
    • Detects plaque buildup early
    • Helps evaluate stroke and heart attack risk
    • Supports preventive cardiovascular care

  • CIMT screening may be helpful for individuals who:

    • Have a family history of heart disease
    • Have high cholesterol or high blood pressure
    • Are over age 40
    • Have diabetes
    • Want a preventive cardiovascular evaluation

  • Your CIMT exam is a simple ultrasound scan of the carotid arteries in your neck.

The exam typically takes 15–30 minutes and requires no special preparation.

A trained sonographer performs the ultrasound while detailed images of your carotid arteries are captured.
